Turkish marbled paper

The art of marbling, our subject here then, is the art of obtaining the paper dyed in a myriad of colors which was used for decoration in the art known as calligraphy. Coming over the Silk Road to Anatolia from the Turks ancient homeland, the art set out from Bukhara in Turkestan, picked up its name ‘ Ebru ‘ in Iran, and settled in Anatolia. In the West however this art is referred to as ‘Turkish marbled paper’.
